RECYCLED MATERIALS AT LONGCHAMP

Longchamp makes use of various initiatives in reducing its impact on the environment.

Since 2019, Longchamp has launched several product lines using recycled materials.

RECYCLED POLYESTER: THE PERFECT BALANCE OF COMMITMENT AND ELEGANCE

Driven by its desire to preserve resources and ensure the longevity of its creations, the Maison incorporates eco-friendly materials whenever possible. Among them, recycled polyester, made from plastic bottle waste, gracefully enhances its collections, reflecting a sincere commitment to the environment.

True to this vision of eco-design rooted in sustainability, Longchamp continues its efforts by combining innovation and responsibility.

LE PLIAGE ENERGY, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ECONYL®, SINCE 2022

This modern and unisex line brings creativity together with an eco-friendly design. Inspired by sportswear, it integrates ingenuity with its practical details and is innovative in its use of Econyl®

fabrics.

The body of the bag is made from Econyl® canvas, which is certified recycled polyamide, commonly known as nylon. Recycled polyamide comes from various sources, including fishing nets, rugs, carpets, and industrial waste.

LE PLIAGE GREEN SINCE 2021

In 2021, Longchamp broke new ground with a new recycled version of its iconic Le Pliage Original design.

Available in many colors, the body of the bag is made from recycled polyamide, commonly known as nylon. The recycled polyamide that makes up the canvas for the Le Pliage Green comes from diverse sources, including fishing nets, rugs, carpets, and industrial waste.

It offers a second and more noble life to the materials used (GRS 4.0 Certification).

Le Pliage Original & Le Pliage Green are now made only of canvas produced by recycling.

LONGCHAMP EYEWEAR, AN EFFORT TOWARDS SUSTAINABILITY WITH PLANT-BASED RESIN

Some key frames of the Longchamp Eyewear Collection are made with plant-based resin. Plant-Based Resin is made from castor-bean oil, a cleaner alternative to standard petroleum-based plastics.

Throughout its portfolio, Longchamp is introducing lightweight and durable quality frames made with at least 45% plant-based resin. The process begins when the castor plants are harvested for their beans. Oil is pressed from the beans and turned into pellets which are melted and injected into eyewear frames.

MY PLIAGE SIGNATURE SINCE 2019

Unique to Longchamp, this innovation masterfully combines creativity, technological innovation, and recycled material.

The body of the bag and the strap are both made from recycled polyester. For each model, there is an equivalent number of recycled plastic bottles (10 bottles for the smallest models and 24 bottles for the largest). Similarly, the sublimation letter printing process requires no water consumption, which is unlike the norm.

LONGCHAMP IS COMMITTED TO PURSUING INNOVATION

One of the founding acts of the brand is seeking solutions through innovation and design. The first Longchamp product – the leather-covered pipe – was an innovation, and it was the original casing that made it a success. Every day, Longchamp staff test, optimize and develop new and original projects. These efforts are now geared towards research into processes and raw materials that can help minimize products’ ecological impact.

So, for the Le Pliage bag, Longchamp staff developed a new canvas, both sides of which are made of recycled polyester derived from plastic waste (mainly recycled bottles). The customizable canvas is printed at our workshops in Maine-et-Loire using a process that does not consume water. The launch of the "My Pliage Signature" bag is one of the products of this undertaking, which involves advancements in the service of the environment. Following the same principle, the Green District and Le Pliage Green are made from recycled polyamide canvas. Longchamp aims to use only canvas produced by recycling come 2023.
