Since 1954, the Comité Colbert has promoted French luxury and the French "art de vivre" throughout the world. To mark its 70th birthday and 60 years of diplomatic ties between France and China, the committee has organised this one-of-a-kind event in Shanghai. Jiang Qiong Er—a visual artist and designer from urban China—was chosen to curate and set the scene for this celebration in the renewed historic district of Zhangyuan. 

Represented by our President Jean Cassegrain and three leather craftspeople, Longchamp is taking part in this cultural-initiative week alongside 16 other luxury Maisons in France. Each Maison presents a particular skill in parallel with classic Far-Eastern techniques: tea ceremony, kôdô, kintsugi etc. The dialogue between these cultures is represented by the beauty of the process and the object created. For its presentation entitled "Jeu de Texture", Longchamp chose to present edge dyeing in a way that echoes the traditional Chinese art of eggshell lacquer. This "Made by Longchamp" presentation—a brand with over 75 years' worth of expertise—highlights a detail that is both aesthetic and functional; the dye helps to protect the company's leather creations over time. Eggshell lacquer is one of the finest examples of decorative art in China, renowned for its refinement, durability and protective qualities.
