LONGCHAMP 60TH ANNIVERSARY
In the early 1970’s, Philippe Cassegrain designed a line of bags called “LM”, destined for the Japanese market. Its success gave Longchamp a solid reputation as a creator of women’s handbags and enabled the company to expand throughout the rest of Asia. Now the LM collection, the symbol of this success, is being reprised by Longchamp for its 60th anniversary, with 2 updated versions: the LM Vintage Moka, an exact reproduction of the original line (also available in black), and the LM Verni line, a stylish look in keeping with the 2008 fashion trends.
To celebrate the re-edition of the LM Collection, Longchamp invited Belgian artist Jean-Luc Moerman to use the leather for its bags as a medium for his creative expression. Known for his motifs taken from the urban graphics culture that he applies to all types of surfaces and media, in the Moerman Edition, the artist reveals another source for his inspiration: the ancient art of tattooing. On these skins, he uses organic shapes that reflect his reinterpretation of the original LM motif, imprinting the spirit of today on this classic line of vintage bags.
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Longchamp is creating a special event with the release of 60 one-of-a-kind bags, each an original work of art by Jean-Luc Moerman.
